How to Reset the Locks

Learning to reset the locks with your Blimey Box game kit can be a little tricky at first. Watch this short tutorial to learn how to reset the locks back to zero after your child successfully gets into the box. You may want to bookmark this page for future reference.

4-Digit Number Lock

  1. Open the lock by setting the dial set to the previous combination.
  2. You should note a notch sticking out of the bottom of the shackle.
  3. While looking at the front of the lock (ie: looking at the lock combination numbers), turn the shackle 90 degrees to the left (counter-clockwise).
  4. Push the shackle down as far as it will go so that the notch at the bottom of the shackle slides into the opening on the top of the lock.
  5. Holding the shackle depressed, set the dials to your own combination. (See the video tutorial for how to set the combination without having to “hold down” the shackle. It’s simple, just depress the shackle as far as it will go and then turn it another 90 degrees counterclockwise where it will remain in place while you set the combination).
  6. Release the shackle and return to regular position. The lock will now open to your personal combination.

5-Digit Letter Lock

  1. With the lock open and the dial set to the previous combination, turn the right housing 90 degrees clockwise to the mark on the lock.
  2. Next, turn the dials to your desired combination (so they align with the left notch).
  3. Then, turn back the right housing to its original position. Your combination is set.
  4. To reset the lock again, simply repeat steps 1-3 above.

Key Lock

Insert the key into lock and twist. If you need anything more than that, maybe this game isn’t for you!

*Tips for setting the locks*

If you follow our games in order, you shouldn’t have a problem remembering the previous lock combination, however, if you’re not careful, you could get locked out of your lock! This is a big bummer and you don’t want it to happen to you.

Here are a couple of tips to keep from getting locked out of your locks:

  • Use the Lock Recorder Sheet – if you use this, you will know the last lock combinations for each of your locks.
  • Have your kids use the Lock Map as a place to put newly opened locks. Don’t let your child play with the locks between games because they might accidentally reset them!
  • After each game, always reset the locks back to zero. That way if you don't use the kit for a week, you won't have to try to remember the previous lock combination. Starting from zero always makes resetting the locks easier.
  • Be present. Make sure you are paying attention when you are setting up the games and resetting the locks. If you are distracted or trying to go too fast, you might make a mistake with setting the locks. It's a bummer if you get locked out. We've done it and it's no fun.
