Christmas Escape Game (free printable) Ages 5-7

I'm in the holiday spirit and I love to bring holiday joy to learning. Turn on some Christmas tunes and check out this Free Christmas Escape game for kids ages 5-7 (to accompany the Blimey Box Lockbox kit). This Christmas game has 5 different ways to challenge your child's thinking!

Christmas free game

If you have downloaded any of our other free Seasonal Games like our Spring, Halloween, or Thanksgiving Game, you will find that this one is a little more challenging.

All our brain games are best enjoyed using our resettable Blimey Box Lockbox Kit. This kit goes with all our Learning Escape Games and is the physical component to make our learning games hands-on and HIGHLY engaging and motivating. Kids love manipulating the locks and finding a surprise reward at the end!

First of all, who is this game for?

This Christmas brain game covers a variety of reading and math skills (including sudoku and phonics). However, it also develops essential skills such as logical thinking and spatial awareness. Your kids will go crazy for our lockable games!

Instructions Page

Christmas Escape Game

Every game has:

  • An instructions page
  • Lock answers
  • Step-by-step directions for setting up the game
  • Answer key

The games are really fast to set up (once you get the hang of it). We even have a video for each game to help walk you through the set-up. (Don’t worry if initially, it takes you a little longer. You’ll be setting up games quickly once your child begins demanding “more boxes!”).

Each game has an answer key for each task (so just in case you get stumped, you'll know the answer).

Task 1

Task 1 is a math task. This puzzle creates a multi-step problem for kids.  First of all, it acts as almost a hidden picture because they must find and count the objects. Next, they have to use addition and subtraction to figure out the code.

Once complete, ask your child how she figured it out. It might be interesting to hear how she was able to solve this task.

Task 2

This task is a maze combined with addition and subtraction.

Children must find the secret code by completing the maze correctly and solving the addition and subtraction expressions in the correct order.

Task 3

This task focuses on phonics (beginning word sounds). Early readers need frequent opportunities to identify the beginning letter sounds in words. In this task, children must find the letter that the word starts with.

Once they have the beginning letters for each word, they will have the code to unlock the 5-digit letter lock.

Again, you’re not there to answer simple children’s puzzles. (We’re fairly certain you can do them)! Instead, you’re there to help your child learn problem-solving strategies.

Task 4

Inside the locked bag is Task 4. This task must be completed in order for the child to unlock the treasure box and get to the end treat.

Task 4 is an algebra puzzle. To get the secret code, kids must use math to figure out the number each symbol represents. Once your child solves this puzzle, she should be able to unlock the bag.

Key Task

Christmas sudoku puzzle

The key task is a Sudoku puzzle. It requires the child to cut out the pictures and place them in the appropriate spots in the puzzle in order to solve the puzzle and get the key. Cutting out the pieces offers some quick fine-motor skills practice.

The child must then use logical reasoning to place the pictures in the correct parts of the grid so that none of the pictures appear in the same column, row or box. If your child has never been exposed to Sudoku before, this might take some explaining. Eventually, you’ll see your child picks it up quickly.

Benefits to Blimey Box Escape Games

Once your child completes all the tasks and unlocks all of the locks, he or she will receive a surprise or reward. This final treat motivates kids to keep going and helps kids to practice perseverance skills. Check out the Game Kit to see the complete experience.

Additionally, as children unlock each lock, they experience small successes which motivates them to keep going. Games usually contain tasks that are easier and some that are more difficult. The easier tasks boost confidence while the more difficult tasks challenge your child’s brain.

Blimey Box Escape games are designed and created by an elementary teacher and an attorney (who loved LSAT puzzles). Games are carefully created to give your child a fun, yet challenging learning experience (that is often addicting). Don’t get mad at us if your child is asking for these almost daily! You will find that your child is begging you to learn!

Go ahead and give it a try!
